A free 2-hour class, targeted to pregnant women, taught by a Certified Lactation Consultant and/or Public Health Nurse and made possible by Halton Region and the Halton Baby Friendly Initiative Coalition. You will learn the importance of breastfeeding, how to get breastfeeding off to a good start, the management of breastfeeding, how to prevent common breastfeeding challenges, and how to build a strong support system. The Halton Healthcare Service offers breastfeeding workshops twice per month at Milton District Hospital. Classes are two hours in length and are limited to 6 couples per session. Topics covered include; latch and position, getting started, common chalenes, maximizing milk production, and more. The cost is $45 per couple. Call for more information and to register.

The HPNP is a free year round program that hosts weekly sessions that discuss various topics. HPNP aims to improve the health of moms and their babies. Healthy Babies Healthy Children - Halton Regional Health Department

Healthy Babies Healthy Children is free, voluntary, confidential program for expectant parents and families with young children up to age 3. The focus for the program is on promoting healthy child development. Families are provided with information and support, and connected to programs in the community that support parents. The groups are led by a Public Health Nurse and cover such topics as parenting, sleeping and crying, feeding your baby and infant health. It is free and there is no registration required. The Breastfeeding Support Clinic is available for breastfeeding advice and assistance to expectant mothers considering breastfeeding and mothers who give birth at OTMH. The clinic is staffed with Certified Lactation Consultants. The Breastfeeding Clinic is open Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, Saturday 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and closed Sunday. Breastfeeding Clinic - Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital

This clinic, staffed by a certified lactation consultant, is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. If you wish to see a lactation consultant during your stay at the hospital, just let your nurse know. They bring together in one location information about children's services and programs in the community. If you have questions about your child's development, or want to know how to get information or services for your child aged 0-6 in your area contact your local centre.

Postpartum Support Group

Do you have a child, newborn to 2 years? Are you feeling sad, lonely, angry, depressed or overwhelmed? Are you having trouble coping? If so, you may be experiencing post-partum mood disorder (PMD). You are not alone - help is available. Come and meet other moms who are having similar experiences, learn about PMD and what you can do to help yourself and your family. New Parent Workshop

A 3 hour, non-certificate workshop for new parents and grandparents focusing on accident and injury prevention, first aid, choking and CPR techniques used on newborns, infants and young children. Learn essential emergency skills with lots of hands-on active practice time. The cost of the course is $45. It is currently offered in Oakville, Milton, and Georgetown.

At the Stop Smoking Clinic a health professional will help you assess your lifestyle, understand why you smoke, set a quit date and choose a personalized method of quitting free of charge. Clinic counselling is by appointment only and usually involves 3 - 8 visits, 30 minutes each. The Stop Smoking Clinic offers free nicotine replacement therapy (patch, gum, inhaler, lozenges) for eligible tobacco users. Clinic sites are available throughout Halton Region. Butt Out Smoking Cessation Program - Halton Health Services

The Butt Out program is specifically designed for smokers who want to quit. The program consists of seven weekly sessions that build on the skill and information needed to develop a comprehensive individualized quit plan and provide support for smokers as they go through the quitting process.
