A public health nurse is available for telephone advice, information and resources about breastfeeding and other topics to parents of young children. Staff are available Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 4:30pm.

Prenatal Education Series - H&PEC Health Unit

Prenatal classes can help you and your family experience a healthy pregnancy and have the healthiest baby possible. Expectant couples are encouraged to start prenatal classes as soon as possible in their pregnancy. The Education Series is a combination of e-learning and in-person classes.

All women are encouraged to complete the e-learning prenatal educaion program before taking the in-person classes. The in-person classes include information on: Breastfeeding, Labour and Delivery, and Preparation for Parenting. Classes are FREE and support persons are encouraged to attend.

Gateway Community Health Centre

Gateway Community Health Centre provides prenatal education for Central Hastings. This includes 1:1 early pregnancy education, a prenatal series including labour and delivery, breast feeding, and postpartum, newborn and safety issues. They also provide breast feeding support once home either through 1:1 through office visits, home visits or at the community Cradling Arms program.

This Drop-In playgroup for expectant moms or moms and dads with babies up to 16 months is geared towards the unique needs and challenges faced by military families. A specialisit in Infant Development from Counseling Service of Belleville District (CSBD) visits the last Monday of each month. Village Mommy

VillageMommy.com is a free service with a mission to bring the supportive village feel back to modern motherhood. The service help moms find other moms within walking distance who have babies/kids the same age as them. Peer support is proven to help moms' mental health and even improves outcomes for babies!

We Can Quit Prenatal Inititive- - Hastings and Prince Edward Counties Health Unit

A service for pregnant and postpartum smokers (up to one year), it includes individualized one-on-one counseling in their home for up to 10 weeks with free Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) for client and their partner such as nicotine gum, patch or lozenges. The counseling sessions will include a thorough screening and assessment, determination of NRT eligibility, development of a quit plan, and free resources, including a quit kit, to assist a smoker with their quit attempt. For information, support and resources to quit smoking call and speak with a trained public health promoter or public health nurse. Free quit smoking kits are available for pregnant women and postpartum women at any of the five health unit offices. The kits contain a self-help quit smoking guide, practical tools, fact sheets, activities and tips to help with quitting smoking. Just stop in and pick one up. Kits are also available online.
