Prenatal Classes - Porcupine Health Unit

While attending classes, you and your partner or support person will gain knowledge and confidence while you explore the up-to-date world of pregnancy, labour/delivery and what to expect after the baby is born. The prenatal classes offered include a wide variety of topics ranging from pregnancy, to birth and newborn care. Classes are held in Timmins on Wednesday evenings in a 5 week series. Teen Prenatal Classes - Porcupine Health Unit

If you are between the ages of 14 and 25, come with your friend, partner or mother to learn about pregnancy and delivering a baby. Dinner is provided at the beginning of each class and bus tickets are available for your transportation. Classes are offered in Timmins every wednesday evening. Please call for more information and to register.

Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program

The Canada Prental Nutrition Program provides pregnant women in need with nutrition counseling, support and follow-up throughout their pregnancy. Participants will see the dietitian once a month throughout their pregnancy and will learn about healthy eating during pregnancy, breastfeeding and early infant feeding. Vouchers for milk, food and vitamin supplements are also provided to those in need. If you are interested in this program, talk to your health care provider or call the Health Unit.

Healthy Babies Healthy Children - Porcupine Health Unit

The Healthy Babies, Healthy Children program is a home visiting program for pregnant women and parents under six years of age. A public health nurse and family home visitor work closely to meet your needs. Both can provide advice and support about pregnancy and parenting over the phoen or in person. When needed they may also link families to support services in the community. Visits can be done in your home or where you feel comfortable. You can begin and end the program at any time. The program is free and completely confidential. Call to sign up for this program.

Starting Off Right - Porcupine Health Unit

When you get home with your new baby, a public health nurse will call to make sure you and your baby are doing well. The telephone consultation is a chance to ask questions about your health or your baby's health and get information about infant feedings and caring for your baby. During the Telephone Consultation, the public health nurse will offer to visit you at your home to provide more information about caring for your baby in the early days.

Breastfeeding Support - Porcupine Health Unit

If you are not sure if your baby is nursing well, or if he is getting enough breastmilk, ask for help! Public Health Nurses are available for telephone consulation to provide information and support with breastfeeding on Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:00pm.

Breastfeeding Buddies - Porcupine Health Unit

Breastfeeding Buddies is a mother-to-mother telephone support program. With this program, new and expectant mothers are matched with experienced mothers who are willing and trained to share their breastfeeding knowledge and experience. It is preferable to arrange a breastfeeding buddy before your baby is born. Please call to sign up for this program.

Let's Grow Newsletters - Porcupine Health Unit

The Let’s Grow resource is offered to all parents of children from newborn to five years. Parents who subscribe will receive twelve free “Let’s Grow” issues. Let’s Grow information packages will be mailed to parents at age appropriate intervals for the first five years. In each of the twelve issues, there will be information about child growth and development, speech and language, hearing, vision, safety, play, parenting skills and parenting resources. The Ontario Early Years Centres are a place for children up to the age of six and their parents and caregivers to take part in programs and activities together. The Ontario Early Years Centres also bring together in one location information about children's services and programs in the community. If you have questions about your child's development, or want to know how to get information or services for your child aged 0-6 in your area contact your local centre.

Village Mommy is a free service with a mission to bring the supportive village feel back to modern motherhood. The service help moms find other moms within walking distance who have babies/kids the same age as them. Peer support is proven to help moms' mental health and even improves outcomes for babies!
